MAN, Scania and Fiat Professional are the winners of the Sustainable Truck of the Year 2022. The three awards have been appointed on October 27 during a dedicated event at Ecomondo exhibition in Rimini (Italy). It is quite interesting to notice that two out of three awards went to full-electric vehicles, while the third one (MAN in the Tractor category) won also because of the company’s efforts in making the IC engine cleaner. In this post you can recall all the finalists that were evaluated by the professional jury of the STY 2022.

The winners of the Sustainable Truck of the Year 2022: MAN TGX 18.510

As mentioned above, the award in the Tractor category (vehicles up to 44 ton) went to MAN TGX 18.510. The jury gave the following explanation: «The latest generation of MAN TGX trucks raised the bar as for quality and efficiency. Further refined aerodynamics improve air flows for the benefit of lower drag, resulting in fuel savings and reduced emissions. Powertrain efficiency is ensured by the proven 12.4-liter, 510 hp engine combined with the Tipmatic transmission. The comfortable cab is designed with the aim of providing well-being on-board both while driving and during breaks».

Scania 25 P BEV stood up among distribution trucks

The Distribution category includes vehicles up to 26 ton with either 2 or 3 axles. Scania 25 P BEV stood up among the finalists. Already available on the market, Scania 25 P BEV «is a full electric vehicle that does not give up anything in terms of performance and efficiency. This proves that carbon-neutral urban and regional distribution is more than just a prospect for the next generation of drivers. The heart of the Scania 25 P BEV is an e-Machine that integrates power electronics, 310 hp electric motor and two-speed transmission. The range is variable, reaching 250 km with the highest capacity system based on 9 lithium-ion battery modules», according to the jury.

The most sustainable van is Fiat Professional E-Ducato

Last but not least, Fiat Professional won the Van award (vehicles up to 7 ton) with the full-electric E-Ducato, which marks quite an important turning point in the name of sustainability and alternative traction. The van «stands out as an actual benchmark when it comes to zero-emission vehicles for last mile deliveries. It does so without denying its DNA, putting in place solid credentials: a 122 hp engine perfectly aimed at urban use. Depending on the batteries, the vehicle range may reach up to 370 km. In addition, the van boosts 17 cubic meters of volume and 1,910 kilos of load capacity. Connectivity and safety features are also appreciated».
