Just over five years have passed since that edition of the Intermat that crowned it Diesel of the year. It was in fact the year 2015. Already at that time, the plans for Stage V were clear and explicit in the Ats and the upward retouching of the torque curve. This is what we received from Kolher.
“The distinctive feature of the KDI 3404TCR SCR is the high torque density, which guarantees the typical performance of higher displacement engines. Looking carefully at the data, in the US-T4F version the maximum torque is 500Nm, while in the EU-Stage V version it is 650Nm. The great advantage of the KDI 3404TCR SCR is, therefore, that it can offer outstanding performance with very limited dimensions and overall dimensions compared to higher displacement motors. Moreover, as for all the engines in the KDI family, the management of the exhaust after-treatment system is extremely effective and smart, as it has long regeneration intervals and the ability to regenerate the DPF, mainly in passive mode, and in any case without any impact on the engine performance and driveability of the machine. The extreme effectiveness of KDI engine after-treatment systems is also due to the founding idea on which this platform was developed: engines designed to have high performance with extremely efficient combustion, which allows full compliance with the limits of the strictest emission regulations. The exhaust gas after-treatment system of the EU-Stage V versions is housed in a single compact and easy-to-install casing, a flexibility guaranteed by the possibility of customising the layout according to the installation on the machine. The performance in the EU-Stage V version is even higher, so much so that the KDI 3404TCR SCR engine is capable of reaching 112 kilowatts at 1,800 rpm, allowing it to work at low rpm with important advantages in terms of noise and consumption.

It also stands out for its architecture, such as the side power take-offs that flank the main and secondary power take-offs, and have been designed to make the KDI 3404 the ideal solution for manufacturers looking for maximum installation flexibility. Another unique feature of the KDI 3404TCR SCR are the counter-rotating shafts contained in the crankcase architecture, which allow excellent vibration reduction, thus guaranteeing operator comfort and silent running of the engine”.
