Isotta Fraschini adds a piece to the IFuture project with the 12-cylinder, called 12V170 G, in the line-up of the Fincantieri Group company, which recently replaced the CEO Giuseppe Bono with Pierroberto Folgiero.

After the 16-cylinder for Isotta Fraschini it is now time for the 12V170 G

The project to relaunch the Isotta Fraschini brand in the galaxy of industrial applications is therefore proceeding smoothly, in spite of pandemics, supply chain lacks, wars and impending elections. Speaking of branding, Isotta Fraschini has bought back the rights to its original logo, which depicts Urania, the Greek muse of astronomy and geometry.

We go into the engine segmentation in detail with Maurizio Bianco, Sales Department Isotta Fraschini Motori. “The 12-cylinder represents the natural evolution of the industrial program, starting with the 16-cylinder, the star of the road show. We are looking forward to the presentation of the 12V170 G, because it is a further confirmation of the program started in October 2021, which we are carrying out perfectly in line with the time forecasts we have set ourselves, confirming Isotta Fraschini’s commitment to the industrial segment“. Basically, the power ratings have been extended, with some more specific configurations, specifically engineered for the 16 and replicated on the 12-cylinder, with the possible presence of the on-board intercooler. The 12-cylinder will be available from the end of 2022.

Is it available now?

Is the refrain always the same, i.e. 12 or 16 months for delivery? At the Isotta Fraschini Motori plant in Bari, Apulia, it seems not, benefiting from having the same modular engines, which therefore share most of the components, including the engine block, with the same interfaces, for both continuous and emergency applications. Engine delivery times are expected within the promised two months. Modularity also of the cylinder displacement, which repeates that of the 16-cylinder Powergen engine accompanied during the autumn 2021 Engine Road Show. The features are those of the 16 cylinder engine, i.e. 170 millimetres bore and 185 stroke, for a displacement of 50.4 litres 12V170 G, compared to 67.2 of the 16V170 G.
