Efficiency, a refrain that rages through the world of industrial applications. The efficiency lever should not be sought solely in thermodynamic parameters (HERE the Weichai record). We asked the German manufacturer ADDINOL to talk about their high-efficiency lubricants for heavy-duty operation.

Let’s start with a brief presentation of ADDINOL. What are the core business, focus and targets?

High-efficiency lubricants from ADDINOL not only ensure reliable lubrication and a longer service life of plant components. They also provide special potential for using energy more efficiently and decreasing its consumption. They guarantee maximum operational safety and make significant contribution to reducing costs and conserving resources. ADDINOL relies on high-efficiency lubricants both in the industrial and in automotive sector. The engine oils of the ADDINOL Professional series are specifically tailored to the requirements of turbo diesel engines, being used under high loads in commercial vehicles. ADDINOL Professional 0530 E6/E9 is a super high-performance diesel engine oil in SAE class 5W-30 meeting the extreme specifications of the strict Euro V and Euro VI emission standards. The optimal combination of base oils of the latest synthesis technology and innovative additives guarantees outstanding performance. Here MAN M 3677 approval can be cited as an example. With ADDINOL Professional 0530 E6/E9 the engine is reliably protected against corrosion, wear and deposits. Due to its low SAPS character, it is suitable for all exhaust aftertreatment systems. It can also be used for commercial vehicles running on natural gas (CNG) or liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).

With ADDINOL Professional 1030 CK-4 and 1540 CK-4 the high-efficiency family of heavy-duty engine oils has grown. They comply with latest API (American Petroleum Institute) specification API CK-4 and thus contribute to the reduction of carbon dioxide and greenhouse gas emissions. Compared to API CJ-4 oils, they provide improved oxidation resistance and shear stability. For fleet management, the use of ADDINOL Professional CK-4 engine oils leads to extended the oil change intervals and increased the operating times. Taking the manufacturer’s specifications into account, they can replace the heavy-duty engine oils currently used in the viscosity classes 10W-30 and 15W-40, since they are backwards compatible up to API CH-4.

Talking about fuel saving

High-efficiency lubricants create added value in the long term with more kilometers on road, rail and sea. Among other things, they are characterized by lower evaporation losses and thus higher viscosity stability. This reduces fuel consumption and the tank filling is sufficient for additional kilometres or miles. This applies especially to ADDINOL Eco Cargo 1040 LE in the field of heavy-duty diesel engine oils. The fuel-efficient engine oil has been specifically developed for commercial vehicles with EURO III, EURO IV, EURO V and EURO VI generation diesel engines. Due to its energy efficiency, it achieves an excellent cost-benefit ratio in all areas of application. For the fleet of a Dutch forwarding company in Groningen (Netherlands), for example, annual savings of € 44,334 were achieved only through reduced fuel consumption. In the practical test, two identical vehicles from manufacturer DAF were selected and monitored over 46 weeks using a Global Positioning System (GPS). Consumption values, distance data, tank cycles and quantities as well as the speed driven were continuously documented. Based on this data, comparable operating conditions for the two test vehicles could be reported over the entire period. After 24 weeks the oil was changed. Previously, a competitor product had been used in SAE class 10W-40, also meeting the requirements for EURO III, EURO IV, EURO V and EURO VI diesel engines. The evaluation of the consumption data over 46 weeks showed a significant reduction in fuel consumption for both test vehicles. With the oil change to ADDINOL Eco Cargo 1040 LE fuel consumption of both trucks could be reduced by 4%. For the freight forwarder in Groningen (Netherlands) the change to the high-quality low-viscosity engine oil ADDINOL Eco Cargo 1040 LE has paid off in several ways: longer engine life, reliable lubrication under all operating conditions and lower fuel consumption.
